Basement waterproofing is something that should be left to an insured professional. Depending on the height of the basement wall and the depth of the footing, a very large excavator may be needed to excavate the wall. Cornerstone has a variety of heavy machines from excavators that can drive through a gate to an excavator that weighs in excess of 10,000 lbs. Our operators are fully licensed and have been running these machines for more than 15 years. We take special care in excavating a home to avoid breaking any service lines not marked by the locating service.
We offer two types of waterproofing systems. The less expensive option is to install a rolled on membrane covered by a drain mat with a sock wrapped drain tile on the footing. The sock wrapped pipe is always covered by no less than 36” of gravel to avoid any damage to the pipe and to allow free movement of the ground water through the gravel and into the pipe. The better system is one using Bituthene products. This system consists of a rolled on primer, peel and stick membrane (Bituthene 3000) and all joints and seams are sealed with Bituthene Mastic. After the mastic cures, a drain mat is then installed on the outside. The footing drain is then covered with a minimum of 36” of gravel and discharged to daylight.
